subscribe
to the Medit-Plants e-mail forum
Send a one-line e-mail message to sympa@ucdavis.edu from the e-mail account which you'd like
to receive the discussion messages:
subscribe medit-plants John Doe
The 'John Doe' should, of course, be your own name (or however you'd like to identify yourself). This will be entered into the subscriber's list, along with the e-mail address from which you sent this subscribe command.
In response, you will receive notification from the LISTPROC software, and be asked to confirm your subscription (to protect against unauthorized use of this feature). You will then start receiving the postings in your e-mailbox.
|
Due to occasional past problems with 'spamming', the group is currently set to accept posted messages only from subscribed individuals (i.e. you cannot send a message to the group without first subscribing).
• TIP • • • • •
Sometimes the group gets a little quiet (nothing for a few days), and even at its peak, the overall volume of this group is not high, so be patient until you see what is a 'usual' amount.

After you are a subscriber, you may participate in the forum by sending e-mails to medit-plants@ucdavis.edu. When responding to a forum message, but sure and choose 'reply all' in order to have this address appear in your mailer "To:" field, or manually cut and paste medit-plants@ucdavis.edu into this field (normally 'reply' responses go only to the message sender and not to the forum at large).
Long-time subscribers - please note that as of Jan 2011, UC Davis has changed from the former listproc e-mail address to sympa@ucdavis.edu.
The following are some listserv commands that must always be sent to sympa@ucdavis.edu, and always from your 'subscribed' e-mail account):
review medit-plants
the response to this command is the list of current subscribers to medit-plants
set medit-plants mail digest
instead of recieving each post to the group as it is posted, you will recieve them in 'bundles' once a day - reduces the number of e-mail items you will recieve but might make it slightly more difficult to respond to a specific post (i.e. you have to edit out the others and make sure your subject line is appropriate)

• TIP • • • • •
If you do not want Medit-Plants messages accumulating in your inbox, but still want to be able to send messages to the forum, you can set your subscription to postpone and then go the Medit-Plants archive when you want to read messages.
| |
set medit-plants mail postpone
turns 'off' the reciept of postings from medit-plants without dropping you from the subscribers list (while you are on vacation or away from your e-mail) - set medit-plants mail or set medit-plants mail digest turns it back 'on' when you return
help
provides you with a list of all the various LISTPROC commands available (not for the faint of heart!)
unsubscribe medit-plants
removes you from the subscribers list (i.e drops you from the list)
Problems with any of the above, or with your subscription to the list in general, can be sent to: medit-plants-request@ucdavis.edu
