haploid

Half the usual number of whole chromosome sets (i.e. 1 set), as in cells involved in sexual reproduction (i.e. gametes).

holotype

(herbarium specimens) - the one specimen or illustration used by the author, or designated by the author as the nomenclatural type.

hypogynous

The ovary attached to the receptacle above the attachment of other floral parts - a flower with this arrangement is described as hypogynous.

hysteranthy

The phenomenon of flowering before the leaves appear.
