Glossary of terms - I
imparipinnate
pinnately compound leaves in which there is a lone terminal leaflet rather than a terminal pair of leaflets; also called odd-pinnate.
inflorescence
The complete flowerhead of a plant including stems, stalks, bracts, and flowers.
infraspecific
At a taxonomic level below that of species, e.g., subspecies, variety, cultivar, or form.
interruptedly pinnate
Pinnately divided (i.e. like a feather) into larger lobes alternating with smaller lobes in between.
involucre
A series of bracts beneath or around a flower or flower cluster.
involute
Margins (e.g. of a leaf) rolled foreward and upwards.
isolectotype
(herbarium specimens) - any duplicate specimen of the lectotype.
isoneotype
(herbarium specimens) - any duplicate specimen of the neotype.
isosyntype
(herbarium specimens) - a duplicate specimen of a syntype.
isotype
(herbarium specimens) - any duplicate specimen of the holotype.
